Art Fair (All grades) Designed especially for St. Catharine School by our artistically gifted parent volunteers, Art Fair is a day long, hands-on series of age-appropriate artistic workshops. Students learn and apply various creative techniques and, at the end of the day, they take home a rewarding set of personal artistic treasures. Art Classes (K-6th grades) Extra-curricilar art education classes are available for interested students. The program is run by "Young Rembrandts". For additional information: 662-0878 or www.youngrembrandts.com Power of Pen (7th and 8th grade) Preparation for this annual writing competition begins each Fall in English class, where top-level students are identified as candidates for the official local competition, which is held on a Saturday. At the competiton, students compete against their peers from other participating area schools. Students who excel at the local level advance to the regional and state competitions. It's Academic (7th and 8th grade) Hosted by LaSalle High School and based on the ever-popular TV quiz show format, It's Academic provides an outlet for sharp-minded students who have a gift for retaining facts and enjoy academic competition. Speech Contest (7th and 8th grade) One of our premier annual events. Students select a topic, research the topic, and prepare a planned and thoughtful speech for competitive honors. Traditionally, St. Catharine students are among the top winners this event. Social Studies Fair/Science Fair (7th and 8th grade) This graded event is one of the most important academic requirements for the 7th and 8th grade students. Emphasis is placed on preparing the students for high-school and college project methodologies [project management, time management, writing, analytical skills, and presentation heavily emphasized] and working collaboratively in teams. The Fair theme alternates each year [one year it's Social Studies Fair, the next year it's Science Fair] in order to provide a broader and deeper level of learning. Math Counts (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) An after-school program that enables students to polish their math skills for competitive recognition. Each year, St. Catharine students compete against their peers in a math competition at UC. Bible Bowl (6th grade) Hosted by St. Ignatius school, the Bible Bowl is the culminating event for students who have invested their personal time in studying 10 books from the Bible. Similar to "It's Academic" in format, the Bible Bowl is one of our most popular enrichment activities. Camp Campbell Guard (6th grade) This overnight, chaparoned event enables our 6th grade students to spend 3 days at YMCA Camp Campbell Guard experiencing the outdoors, re-living historical events, and creating lasting friendships with their fellow students. Knowledge Masters (6th grade) A competitive virtual quizzing competion that pits our students against other students throughout the US and various countries. Enormously popular with the students who thrive on academic fun, Knowledge Masters is an on-site event that promotes an esprit-de-corps among the students and teachers. Young Authors (5th grade) With a focus on developing improved personal writing skills, students work on a series of essays throughout the school year. They select a single essay from their portfolio and read their work for honors and recognition. Spelling Bee (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades) Can you spell time-honored tradition? Our students regularly rank at the top of the class in the annual Cincinnati Post Spelling Bee. We think that spells s-u-c-c-e-s-s. Student Council (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades) Remember making signs and campaign promises? Our Student Council is closely advised by our principal and each year they focus on their ability to influence positive change within the school and the community by promoting student leadership. Representatives are elected from each home room; 8th graders hold the officer positions. |
